On Premises software represents the best choice if the “Cloud” model does not provide guarantees of “Business Continuity”. Typically manufacturing companies equipped with “Legacy” systems, where the integration processes with machines are not efficient, or companies already equipped with complex infrastructures, and/or characterized by systemic architectures already available for use: these organizations normally prefer to opt for On Premises software.
Further technical aspects to consider are speed, reliability and cost of connectivity. Sometimes, for the above reasons, many companies operating in “Digital Divide” environments are forced to choose the On Premises version.
It should be specified that, in the case of Fluentis, reversibility between the two models is always possible. The company can start the project using a Cloud approach, and then subsequently opt for the On Premises solution, or vice versa.
The strengths of the software On Premesis are:

Having the local infrastructure characterized by physical and/or virtual servers allows the CIO (Chief Information Officier) to manage the evolution of the system in a completely autonomous way according to the actual business needs.
The integration with production lines is anything but simple. Communication with PLCs, or CNCs of production machines, in view of Industry 4.0 has now become a pressing need for almost all companies in the manifacturing sector. Having both the machine and the ERP system in the same LAN allows an easier and more reliable approach to integration between them.
Compared to the Cloud version, the On Premises software allows to “exploit” the initial purchase of licenses for unlimited use over time, and as a result it cuts the costs for a long period of time. It is important to mention the necessity of investments in annual maintenance.
